If you think for too long about how much treasure people are sitting on without realizing it, you’ll start to lose your mind, and this saga definitely won’t help things. A Redditor was recently given permission to go through his grandfather’s junk drawer, only to find unopened Magic: The Gathering cards in excellent condition.

Commenters were quick to caution OP to not open anything, with the top comment reading, “If you don’t play, do your research before selling. That’s some good money,” while another popular comment reads, “Just keep them closed for longer homie, do not… DO NOT! Open any.”

My grandpa let me go through his “junk” and let me have these “old cards” he never bothered to open.

Being Magic fans, people went on to debate exactly how much the cards could be worth and exactly what OP could spend the money on (down payment on a house versus purchasing a small islands was the main debate). Fortunately, it turns out OP is a Magic fan themselves, writing in an update, “Thank you all for the advice! I’ve been playing mtg since 2000, so I knew what I had as soon as I saw them. I was never going to open them, and am not going to!

“They are being kept in a cool, dark, dry place. Many of you mentioned good options in terms of sale, and I’m weighing my options. And to the guy who messaged me and said you wanted to ‘buy these so I can make my first deck’….lol.”

People in the Magic subreddit were particularly excited, with one commenter pointing out that while most of the decks would probably go for around $700, the Unlimited deck could go for as much as $20,000.

Not too shabby for something found in your grandpa’s junk drawer — and certainly much better than old receipts and pen caps.
